Hyundai’s press conference made a point to note that the famous DeLorean DMC-12, best known for the version with an aftermarket Flux Capacitor, has a direct line of decent to the car the N Vision 74 was inspired by, the Hyundai Pony Coupé, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro’s ItalDesign firm. Essentially, when Hyundai decided they weren’t in the right position to go into production on a Pony-based sports car, ItalDesign held onto their sketches and dusted them off and tweaked them when the DMC-12 project came around. Here, look at their sketches for both:
Look at that! There’s differences, sure, but the familial resemblance is unmistakable. Anyway, just watch me geeking out in the video and I think you’ll get a good sense for why this is such a fantastic concept car, especially from a company not necessarily known for dramatic concept cars.
