The Chevy Orlando is a crossover that the United States almost got. Back in 2008, Chevy hit the Paris Motor Show with a concept for a future crossover. The Orlando Concept sported muscular bodywork, flush door handles, and flashy wheels. Americans got to see it the next year at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit and the Chicago Auto Show after. Chicago is where a 16-year-old version of yours truly saw it....

Last week, I attended one of America’s largest RV shows in Tampa, Florida. While there, I found myself surrounded by mammoth coaches and colossal travel trailers. Those rigs were great, but I couldn’t help but think about the countless crossovers out there that won’t even come close to hauling one of those beasts. RV manufacturers haven’t forgotten about the other end of the market, and small campers made a splash....

The story about this wild truck–and its even wilder companion (we’ll get to that later)—goes back to the mid-1980s. TV shows featuring high-tech vehicles like Knight Rider and Airwolf were in vogue, and in 1987 America would get yet another. Knight Rider creator Glen Larson would join forces with director Douglas Heyes to create The Highwayman. In this show, which reviews suggest is like Knight Rider with a splash of Mad Max, the “Highwayman” roams around in his truck, solving crimes and mysteries in a dystopian reality....

Despite my love of aviation, I’ve only been flying for about six years. I still remember that 2016 flight like it was yesterday. I got to watch the sun rise at Chicago O’Hare International Airport as the busy airport operated like a small city. My first-ever flight aboard Frontier Airlines’ Fallon the Falcon Airbus A321 was a dream come true. I started flying frequently after that and one thing has been confusing me: I have stayed about the same size, yet, how well I fit into a seat can be a real crapshoot....

The Semi is one of Tesla’s most significant product releases in a while. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been making huge promises about the truck—promises that, delivered upon, would put Tesla in a whole new market and ahead of its competition there. I mean, an electric semi-tractor that could carry a full load 500 miles is a huge deal. It seems that Tesla really did drive a loaded one 500 miles, but we still await crucial details about how much the tractor itself weighs....

You have no idea how much I wanted to find a decent, worthy Camaro to make this a fair fight. This is the best I could do on a truncated timetable. Mustangs in this condition and price aren’t hard to come by, but it’s getting hard to find any Camaros between “Mecum-ready” and “Daddy’s shootin’ car.” Maybe someday I’ll do a re-match, with ’70s models. That should be a fairer fight....

Here’s the clip; also, I don’t recognize any of these people, which reminded me that I haven’t watched GMA since that guy who sounded kinda like Bullwinkle was a host. But that doesn’t matter, just watch: So, what’s going on here, exactly? On a very, very basic level, the saltwater is interacting with the chemistry of a lithium-ion battery to cause shorting and thermal runaway conditions. We’re currently finding a proper EV battery engineer to do a deep dive on this, but until then it’s just grimly fascinating to see how these fairly unexpected (well, in the layperson’s eyes) issues that come with, for the first time in America, a genuinely significant number of EVs on the road....

Everything about this image just causes more questions to be asked: Why?...

The 1950s and 1960s were a golden era in automotive history. Motors were big and powerful, but not nearly as powerful as the styling departments at car companies, which ran the whole damn industry. Chrome abounded, colors went wild, and metal stampings of high-volume cars began taking more complex shapes than ever. The big defining feature of the era were tailfins, which may have had their origins at General Motors, but that were unquestionably pioneered by Chrysler’s Virgil Exner, whose “Forward Look” styling initiative — which hinged heavily on tailfins — changed automotive styling forever....

Maybe things make more sense inside the brochure: Ha ha ha, nope! They sure don’t! What’s happening here? Dude parks in a dirt field surrounded by scrubby forest and tells the pair of substantially packed, middle-aged, besweatered women “we’re here!” Were they expecting a hotel, or perhaps, you know, any sort of building whatsoever? Maybe, but tough shit, right? You ladies get dropped off with all your suitcases here on this dirt clearing, and you can figure out your vacation from there....

A reader named Patrick asked me a question about recommended tire inflation pressures. He had just recently bought himself a shiny new Jeep Gladiator, and when he first took it on the highway it just didn’t feel right to him. It was sensitive to wind and drafts from passing semi trucks. It followed road grooves excessively, and he felt the handling was actually pretty scary. When he checked the Tire Pressure Monitoring System reading it showed all four tires inflated to about 41-42 psi while the recommended pressure is 37 psi....

Carvana had a rollercoaster of a year in 2022. Besides a cratering stock and fears of collapse, allegations of Carvana failing to fulfill its legal duties to provide proper registrations and titles to customers erupted all over the country. As reported by Florida-based news site WFLA, some customers couldn’t even drive the vehicles they’d purchased from the retailer because allegedly Carvana had either failed to provide the necessary paperwork or had illegally issued out-of-state temporary plates....

GM Printing Money Now, Maybe A Little Less Next Year General Motors just revealed that it ended the year with fourth quarter revenue of $43.1 billion and a net income of $3.8 billion (EBIT-adjusted). For the year, the company banked a record adjusted net income of $14.6 billion on $156.7 billion of revenue. If you’re one of GM’s approximately 42,300 eligible workers then GM’s good year equates to roughly $12,750 in profit sharing, a record according to this story from The Detroit News: And next year?...

The lineage of Chrysler’s big flagship sedan is pretty impressive, when you think about it; a series of cars covering six generations and 15 years, from 1955 to 1970. After the limited-production 300 Hurst of 1970 (you can see that one above in the lower right, with the tasteful hood scoop) the 300 name really got debased, turning into the Chrysler Cordoba, which, of course, birthed the Genuine Corinthian Leather pre-internet meme:...

Zzzz… Huh? What? Oh, sorry, I dozed off there. You voted for the Camry. That’s nice. All right. So last week, my Friday special involved motor scooters, and there was some dissent in the ranks about two-wheeled vehicles being featured here. “Just for that,” I said to my colleagues here, “next Friday I’m gonna do golf carts.” I am a man of my word. You want four wheels? Here you go....

I don’t expect that Fiero to stick around long; it’s a great cheap project that could be really rewarding for the right person.
